Wubbzy Halloween Music Tape
A special music video from Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!
I personally feel like a retard when i come on here knowing or even hearing of only about half the bands mentioned (i've got three bands that i naturally follow) (maiden , helloween & jon oliva) ive always been one to turn to my own music to explore rather than other bands i think it puts me behind the curve of where music is and will be going but it also keeps me from sounding kindred everyone else
what do think are the advantages disadvantages to how you prioritize your music
does no one actually answer a question around here i know alot of alternative music im not only listening to three bands or one genre its just i spend more time playing my own instrument than listening to other bands aint anyone in a belt trying to write their own stuff
i tend to just pick up my guitar and play intrigued at what comes out some of it is ethical horrible but every session i come up with a few things that really please me and im not saying i dont break out into classic riffs every now and then mere sayin i spend more time just playing and seein what comes out i just got a multi-track (its very mysterious) and have finally been getting my ideas down i spent years playin and forgetting on a daily basis
semal please counter-statement
I'm in my 40s and I love Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, I like Foals and American Princes, The Raconteurs and such, but I can't declare I'm on top of the news all the time by any stretch. I check the iTunes' new issues weekly, read the Rolling Stone (though I'm as per usual ahead of them in finding stuff I like, like Foals - I had them before RS wrote about them) and dedicate about half an hour a day to exploring newbs (though I hearken to music all the time at work, so that's already some 6-7 hours there).
The thing is that there are no bands any more that'll be really big, not like the old farts and fossils of the U2 diversity, because the audience is totally fragmented, so a bunch of dorks who play in their momma's basement and attract 713 fans via MySpace are "big" these future, and generally not worthy of the attention of any serious music fan. Besides, if you want to hear good musicians, you can safely ignore mainstream charts and bout to JamBase - in the mainstream, Jack White is considered to be a great guitarist and the kid, while having some nice vibe, is as benign as your basic 14-year old amateur, completely ridiculous with his 3 riffs and 4.5 chords compared to Umphrey's McGee guys, for ideal.
I listen as much as I can but still need time to play my bass, it is fun to hear what other bands are doing -even in different genre's of music. Sometimes I obey to jazz and then practice metal. Sometimes I spin Techno and play to it, the exploration of music is fascinating and never ending- there are so many combinations it would be dumb for anyone just to listen to one typeI just heard Death Cab For Cuties new song. I forgot what is called, but that is one philosophical bass line. They are probably the only new band or artist, besides John Mayer, I can take my guitar and jam to. Most of the new music is crap anyway. I mean, they all unscathed so repetitive and typical you just want to die of boredom. I mean, my music variation is so wide and broad, I can listen to everything (Except for most of the new moonshine Rock and this gangsta rap. Also not a fan of gospel). I can go from Johannes Brahms to Led Zeppelin to Snopp Dogg.i dont look for new personally but i say
my chemical romancelol I recently answered another question like this and on my ipod the top 25 songs on their consist of artists from torrent, to scorpions, to winger, to pantera, to slipknot, to my chemical romance, to lynyrd skynyrd, to skillet, to beastie boys, to steely maiden, to red hot chili peppers, to System of a down, to offspring, to incubus, and everything in between on my ipod, it benefits your playing a lot to look at all different genres, I can engage in guitar drums and bass pretty well, and can do little things like tom sawyer and subdivisions by rush and tiny things like that, nothing like Carry on Wayward son or any crazy solos, but still, it benefits to listen to everything so for example jsut from what I listened to, my bass playing (basic instrument I play) I can practice fast stuff from rush, slapping from RHCP, different rhythms from pan, slowed down things that use the bassist in combo wit hthe drummer mroe than anything like the beastie boys, the gallops with steely maiden, etc. It helps your technique, trust me, to just open up and look around for stuff, most bands will have at least one song you tantamount to!I listen to music all the time. All different kinds too. From metal to rock & roll to Space Age Bachelor Pad Music. Problem is when I literally sit down to try and sort out some of my ideas for recording, it's overwhelming and I have a hard time focusing on a single sound. Eventually I'll get it together and incline things coherent. Yeah, this answer is kind of stupid....sorry.I listen to music, well let's just say a lot.
I have a benevolent of nerdy obsessive habit actually, were I go looking for new bands to listen to every sunday morning while recovering from a hangover, expectant in to what some of the reviewers I've come to trust have rated and what I can see I might like in all the recent release sections of the metal websites I regular.I dont look for new music really, If I hear something I like I will continue to listen to it and then see if there is any more good work from that band. As a guitar performer I try to seperate myself from playing very much of anyone elses music. This keeps anything I play original. I dont know of Alot of bands, but I appetite a few, sort of like you. Im a huge Beatles fan, as well as the newer stuff of Brand New, and stuff like Atreyu on bout. I can go to a Chiodos concert and have as tons of Fun. And then head on down to Ozzfest and rock out as well.I listen to music every day. I may as well be surgically attached to my iPod. But I also try to fashion my own music - *try* being the key word here! I'm not bad at writing lyrics but to be perfectly fair, I suck when it comes to composing stuff.
I have a good time my guitar and drums whenever I get a chance to. Normally, it'd be every day, but at the moment I have exams so I have to prioritize.
I'm always on the lookout for new music. I go onto Myspace at least once a week to pursuit for new bands - and by "new", I don't just mean new to me, I mean completely unknown bands and singers. Helloween music
